8 May. Started warm but by midday it was looking threatening...Waitrose came and dropped off supplies. We put on our slightly smarter clothes and loaded a picnic basket with goodies to take down to Cheldon Barton. Julia had decided she was tired of seeing no one so she suggested we all share the ‘village green’ at suitable distances. Simon had arranged seating at least three metres apart so there was a bit of shouting! The flag was flown and a tape of old music put on but definitely No Vera Lynn. Buddy Holly mostly!
The rain held off - deux gouttes - and the sun broke through. A thoroughly jolly afternoon with lots of chat.
In the middle of it Steve the butcher made the weekly meat drop.
Meanwhile in Strasbourg where they take this day seriously every year, not just when it suits them, the Tricolore was taken to the top of the cathedral spire as usual.
But just see how empty the city streets .
