John and Louise managed to get to Sablet just in time before restrictions hit there. Everyone had to carry an attestation stating their purpose when out and only related folk could walk together. Paul and Linda were questioned by police during a bike ride to Violès - beyond the 1km allowed apparently. Markets were still open but no bars or restaurants. We concluded we’d had a lucky escape. Another day or two and we’d have been stuck. Much as we love our little house, it has only a small terrace and is nothing like as comfortable as Bullsmead. And what’s the point of being there if all the things you go for are off limits! Liz and Keith took the same decision and Gérard and Jen in Horben, Dorte and Sørn in Copenhagen, had no choice - the borders were closed. Deb and Garry in Washington State were equally stuck.
So to cheer us all up I organized a virtual apéro to replace the real ones we all look forward to in Sablet.
Louise sent photo of Sablet being disinfected!
And then we too were boarded up. Bars, restaurants, schools, hairdressers, garden centres etc all closed. Oh woe — I had cancelled my hair appointment the previous week thinking there’d be time later. So now it’s the Dulux dog look with growing out fringe and colour. There are all sorts of handy tips on the internet! Eye shadow or pencil is a good one for those pesky grey streaks...
Enterprising people started up take away businesses. The Grove does take away fish and chips and beer/cider every evening. Strictly by appointment. One customer at a time. We've been twice so far - very nice on a sunny evening. Robert has it well organised.
We eat them in the car in the Parish Hall car park. Adrian has to have his own malt vinegar.
