We were promised hot heat today but it was a bit grey this morning.
Undeterred we set out down the hill to the river passing Selwyn’s cows chewing on a tasty dish of silage. Rather alarmingly we spotted a red Audi turning in the gateway to the river meadow...Other People ... shock horror! We managed to avoid them for a good ten minutes but eventually they hoved into view with two bounding sheepdogs. But at a good distance and we were not troubled. The bluebells are still just about out but increasingly being subsumed by tall grasses. It was rather lovely along the river path.
On the way back up the hill we saw the strangely beautiful bastard balm plants - a bit like mini foxgloves. Must come back and get seeds later in the year.
And then, just after the Cheldon sign, I glanced to my left across a gate and came face to face with an Alpaca! Stocky little woolly creature with a superior sneer, accompanied by a coterie of lambs.
By the time we got home it was sunny and warm so we indulged in the al fresco feta salad and garlic flatbread lunch again.
Roses are coming out apace.
As are two of my white iris. These are the Garside Melling heirloom iris! Marjorie (Janet’s mother in law) gave them to mummy years ago and I took a few from her garden to plant here. Some years are better than others but they are a lovely reminder.
